Join the Seattle-King County Realtors as they raise a glass to this year’s Seattle First Citizen honoree Ted Baseler, President and CEO of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. Baseler is the 77th First Citizen award recipient since the honor was created in 1939. This year’s reception and banquet will be held at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel this Thursday, May 28.
Baseler is regarded as an inspirational, innovative and enthusiastic advocate of Washington wines. He is lauded for helping the state become a top producing wine region in the world. His advocacy extends far beyond the vineyards. Baseler is a respected leader in the US wine industry who gives back in remarkable ways. Among beneficiaries of his benevolence are Seattle Children’s Hospital and College Success Foundation. He is also a longtime advocate for higher education and serves on the Board of Regents for Washington State University, his alma mater.
The First Citizen Awards were created in 1939, after the years of economic hardships of the Great Depression had taken a toll on the public morale of the people of Seattle. In response, REALTORS sought to improve public sentiment and our local economy by drawing attention to the positive community work taking place.
Each year since REALTORS have presented the First Citizen Award on behalf of its communities and in appreciation for those who truly are the First Citizens of the People. Past recipients include Royal Brougham (1946), Dale Chihuly (2006) and Jamie and Karen Moyer (2011).
