Spring may be coming to a close but you can still get in some new release wine tasting at Swiftwater Cellars in Central Washington. This special tasting on June 6 offers a rare chance to taste vineyard samples from the 2013 harvest.
Few things excite wine lovers more than an opportunity to taste wines directly from the barrel. But when barrel tasting occurs at Swiftwater Cellars, the experience rises to a whole different level. Swiftwater Cellars, Washington’s premier destination winery, will host a spring barrel tasting event on Friday, June 6, in the winery’s expansive barrel room. Guests will be able to taste Swiftwater’s wines from its 2013 vintage and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres from the winery’s popular Hoist House restaurant.
Swiftwater Cellars’ winemaker Linda Trotter says the evening will be a fun, intimate and unique evening.
“We’ll be sharing wines from specific vineyard lots,” Trotta says. “Most people don’t have the opportunity to taste them before they are blended into our wines.”
She also said the 2013 wines are maturing beautifully in barrel. “We are very excited about the 2013 vintage,” she says. “While it was a warm growing season, it cooled off nicely at the end, enabling the flavors and phenols in the grapes to catch up with the sugars. As a result, the flavors are very balanced and the tannins are well-rounded.”
Attendees also will have the opportunity to taste pre-release samples of Swiftwater’s 2013 Riesling, which Trotta calls their best Riesling yet. That’s quite a statement to make as the 2011 vintage scored 90+ points in both the Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast and the 2012 Riesling won Double Gold and was named ‘Best in Class’ at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle’s prestigious wine.
