Salt & Straw, Portland’s family-run ice cream company known for its taste-provoking flavors is partnering with Seattle-based Alaska Airlines to bring their ice creams to the skies. Salt & Straw introduced their new single serve packaging as part of the newly launched First Class lunch and dinner service on Alaska Airlines flights between the West Coast and East Coast, as well as flights to Hawaii.

“I really admire Alaska Airlines and all they’ve done to revolutionize the flying experience over the past several years,” says Salt & Straw CEO and co-founder Kim Malek. “I’m so proud to have our ice cream on board adding a little extra smile and wonderment to the people’s flights.”

Initial offerings will include the classic favorite Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, made with Fleur de Sel from The Meadow, and the zingy Meyer Lemon Custard with Blueberries. Additional flavors are set to take flight throughout the summer to keep passengers looking forward to the next scoop. These two hometown Pacific Northwest companies with roots up and down the West Coast are thrilled to partner to create a magical experience at 35,000 feet.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream was founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek in Portland OR in 2011 and presently has kitchens and scoop shops in Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and two new Seattle locations. Every ice cream flavor is handmade in small five to ten-gallon batches in local kitchens using only all-natural cream from nearby farms and the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients. Classic flavors are joined by seasonal flavor menus that rotate every four weeks and vary from city to city. Their ice cream is available for online purchase and can be shipped anywhere in the United States.
